This is one of my favorite quotes in the book, from W.C. Fields: “It ain’t what they call you, it’s what you answer to.”
Rejection stings a lot, and it’s easy to let it feel like failure. But how others label you doesn’t have to define you. I think what really matters is what you choose to answer to.
Choosing self-publishing was hard for me at first because it felt like traditional publishing was the “only” way. Not being chosen could have been a setback, but instead it became a chance to do things my way and publish the book on my own terms. You know what they say, sometimes the best path is the one you make yourself.
