Designing Book Swag for the Book Giveaway (Part 1: Bookmarks)

Here’s a sneak peek of some of the swag items we’re creating for Caput Mundi!

One of the most fun parts of preparing for book giveaways has been putting together the swag box that’ll go out with the advanced copies. I think it’s a great way to say thank you for early readers, and giving them a few hints of the story before they even open the book.

The publicity team usually handles this on their own if you ask, but being the particularly detailed obsessed person that I am, I couldn’t resist getting involved! The bookmarks were designed on Canva, which also has a built-in QR Code Generator—perfect for linking directly to your website or book page right on the bookmark.

For printing, I used Smartpress and their Foil Bookmarks - the foil adds such a beautiful, subtle shimmer that makes the design pop without feeling over the top. You can see both the gloss foil and gold foil effect on my bookmarks (see reel here)

If you decide to go with Smartpress, just keep in mind that setting up the foil layer can be a little tricky at first since it requires a separate layer file for the foil design. Thankfully, Smartpress has a really walkthrough that guides you through the process step by step. I highly recommend following it, especially if you’re new to printing with foil. Once you get the hang of it, the results are absolutely worth it.

The price will depend on how many you order, but if you order a 200 set, the price per bookmark turns out to be $0.66 each.
