Here are some editorial reviews and reader responses for Caput Mundi

Booklife Review (by Publishers Weekly)

"Kang delivers a lovable main player full of spunk, intelligence, and bravery in Niil, making it easy to root for his success. The plot twists, clandestine family history, and shocking cover-ups keep the tension simmering, capped by a cliffhanger conclusion that is sure to leave readers eager for more of Niil and company in future adventures. Takeaway: Brisk fantasy adventure full of family secrets, magic, and cloaked legacy."

Kirkus Review of Caput Mundi

"A lively, imaginative middle-grade fantasy full of adventure and magical elements. In Kang’s middle-grade fantasy novel, a young trio embarks on a perilous, truth-seeking quest that tests their bravery and loyalty. Kidnapped by debt collectors who are after his father, 11-year-old Niil Terra is taken to the gloomy, environmentally ravaged island of Umbra." Review Program: Kirkus Indie

The Werd Nerd Review of Caput Mundi

"True to the description by author B.R. Kang, Caput Mundi: The Head of the World, Book 1: Enarii is a perfect fit for fans of Avatar: The Last Airbender and Percy Jackson. The story follows our protagonist, Niil Terra, who has been left on his own—first by his mother, then his father, and finally by the couple who “kidnaps” and cares for him. Hailing from his rural hometown of Umbra, Niil travels to the sprawling city of Caput Mundi. What follows is a journey through intense culture shock as he navigates a foreign land and unfamiliar societal differences." Reviewed by Erika M. Weinert

YA Books Central Review

"What worked: The most creative part of the book is a substance called enarii. Characters use it freely for a myriad of purposes, and it’s used as currency to buy things. People can absorb it into their skin and use it to form any object they can visualize. Niil is the main character, and he has a rare ability. He can sense the presence of enarii and draw it to himself. The substance seems alive at times, as it starts to move when he’s nearby. Niil learns that the only other person with his ability is his mother, but she left home four years ago. Readers will discover more about enarii as events unfold, as it’s the most important substance in the world. Other secrets await." Reviewed by Mark Buxton

Foreword Review of Caput Mundi

"People’s ultimate loyalties are tested against a backdrop of alchemistic magic and political machinations in the exciting series-opening fantasy novel Caput Mundi: The Head of the World. A boy contends with family alienation and a mysterious metal in B. R. Kang’s alluring fantasy novel Caput Mundi: The Head of the World." Reviewed by Karen Rigby

LibraryThing Reviews of Caput Mundi

"Caput Mundi, the Head of the World by B. R. Kann is the first book in the Enarii series, and I plan to read more (when they come out). It is a fantasy adventure with mystery elements. This book is aimed for older children; Niil, the main character, is 12 years old throughout most of the book. I started reading similar books at age 9, but probably would have enjoyed it at age 8, too. I also enjoy it as an adult." Reviewed by MyFathersDragon

Pine Reads Review

"Niil was my favorite part of this book, and I’ll be thinking of him for a long time; he’s a great representation of what parental neglect or abuse can do to a child. I still remember thinking, “This kid is acting way too mature for an eleven-year-old,” then immediately afterward, “Well wait, so was I after everything I went through.” I think for young readers, Niil is an excellent way to broach that topic." Grace McCool, Pine Reads Review Writer & Editor

Log Cabin Library Review

"One of the stories greatest strengths lies in Niil and Ada's relentless pursuit of the truth, no matter where it leads. Their perseverance makes them a compelling duo, and I especially enjoyed watching their relationship evolve. Ada's initial suspicion of Niil gradually giving away to trust as they worked together to achieve their goals. The story wraps up satisfyingly while leaving space for the next installment in the series." Brenda, Log Cabin Library

NetGalley Reviews of Caput Mundi

"Great fantasy style book with characters that are wonderful like Niil 💛

Love the details and uniqueness of this story

Great world building and character interactions"
